Photo Friday: Masai Warrior, Africa

[singlepic=1790,375,,,left]This Photo Friday was submitted by Laura Walker of A Wandering Sole. Laura is currently on an eight month journey where she is traveling the world & running five marathons to raise money for her organization, Sole Purpose, which is supporting Education, Microlending, and Short-Term Needs.

This photo was taken in Africa during a previous trip. According to Laura, “My trip to Africa in 2008 had me planning my career break before I even returned home. This photo taken of a Masai warrior essentially captures my favorite part of travel: Discovering new cultures & making new friends in unexpected places.”

Incredible! Having just visited Kenya & Tanzania, I had the opportunity to see many Masai dressed in the traditional manner (there are some photos on my own blog) but none with a so ornately-decked out warrior. Stunning. Have you read the book, The White Masai? It tells of a white woman who fell in love with a Masai warrior and married him, and lived in a mud hut. Such an insight into these peoples’ culture.
