Today’s Photo Friday submission comes from Facebook fans, the Van Loen family;
“Our kids get some up-close and personal time with a llama at Tambomachay, Cusco, Perú. We’re now 3 weeks into a 13 month RTW career-break, and are loving it!“
Follow along with the Van Loens as they travel through South America, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Southeast Asia and China. You can find them on Twitter or on their website, http://anvl.org.
Today’s Photo Friday comes from Meet, Plan, Go! founder Sherry Ott, taken as she walked the Camino de Santiago Trail in Spain.
The Camino is a 500 mile pilgrimage path across Northern Spain and took Sherry 5 weeks to complete. Today’s Photo Friday captures the Floating Market in Banjarmasin, Kalimantan, Indonesia. It was taken by second time career breaker and former Meet, Plan, Go! host Lisa Niver Rajna, who writes:
Getting up early to see the floating market was well worth it. The colors, the food, the homes along the edge of the water. I loved the traffic of the boats and the community scene–very different than going to market in Los Angeles! During our year away in 2008-2009, we were in Indonesia twice each time for a month. We went from Malaysian Borneo (Sipadan) and traveled along the coast of Kalimantan to Banjarmasin. We had some great adventures. We left this month (July 2012) for career break TWO! Travel is like a treasure hunt – you never know what you will find when you escape the cube, hop on the plane, and go to distant places.
Some people find…
their happiness
their creativity
their calling
their voice
their tolerance
their strength
their humor
their quiet
their love
their limits
their views
Expedia recently launched a new campaign that speaks to this idea of hunting for the treasure and the concept of Find Yours. We love the focus on experiences and journey rather than hotels and burdening business travel. What do you think?
To kick off this new experience focused travel for Expedia, they are holding a photo contest asking you to tweet your “Find Your…” moment and picture to win a 4-night stay in in Oranjestad, Aruba. They are also giving away 10 $250 coupons toward a hotel or package on Expedia.com. Learn more.
Please share with us in the comments what you have found in your travels or what you hope to find.
This Photo Friday is dedicated to the memory of Lonesome George, who passed away last week at the age of 100. George was the sole surviving Pinta Island Tortoise, and many travelers had the opportunity to meet George in the Galapagos Islands – a destination on many career breakers lists.
This stunning Photo Friday is from Facebook fan Rod Hoekstra:
“I spent 2-1/2 months taking a career break and traveling through South America. This image is one of my favorites from the trip, I was at Iguazu Falls, and had nearly the entire Brazilian national park to myself at sunset.”
Today’s Photo Friday of Warsaw, Poland was submitted by Basic Training member Val Bromann.
“I had a hard time adjusting to life on the road. A week in and I wasn’t getting a rhythm for it, I was crying every day, I wasn’t sure if this was really what I wanted anymore. It was a rainy night in Warsaw and I sat on a bench with my umbrella and a terrible piece of pizza, just staring. When the rain cleared, a rainbow appeared over the Royal Castle. I thought at that moment ‘how many other people in this world are seeing this right now?‘ It’s sometimes, the little things, that help you appreciate what you’re doing, and help you power through the hard times.”
Val is still on the road and you can read more about her journey on her blog.
Have you had a hard time adjusting to long-term travel? How did you get through it?
Today’s Photo Friday from Laos was submitted by former career breakers Stacey Rapp and Dave Roberts.
Stacey and Dave recently returned from 15 months of traveling through 22 countries. Stacey wrote about her feelings upon their return on Monday in Mourning the Loss of the Journey and you can read more about their journey on their web site, Breakfast on Earth.
We had the pleasure of meeting Tad & Gaila from OverlandNow.com at the Overland Expo in Arizona. They are just 5 weeks into their year-long career break, in which they will be riding around North & Central America on their motorcycles.
